Rave Reviews for YogaLife from Yoga Teachers Worldwide

From Lilias Folan, author and host of PBS Lilias Yoga & You--
Your YogaLife book, CDs and affirmation cards are exactly what I was looking for to help me better understand the yamas and niyamas in the light of today's world. A modern presentation -- teaching something quite esoteric and doing a wonderful job of making it accessible to people like myself. Creatively done, truly inspired and truly a great asset for me and my students for years to come.

ARIZONA:

The YogaLife, 10 steps to Freedom books are fabulous! They have made the yamas and niyamas simple, easy and brought them right into the heart. I now feel more able to integrate them into my life and into my yoga class. Thank you, Johanna, for your creativity and passion for sharing them.
— Yana Halouzka, Ashtanga Instructor, Sedona, AZ

I am just loving your little YogaLife book. I just think it's beautiful and, with your permission, I would like to teach from it. I do a little radio show for Sun Sounds Radio in Phoenix, which is radio for the blind, and I do yoga for the blind. They are very limited in what they can do physically so they are much more interested in all the other limbs of yoga. This is just so simple and perfect. I would love to use it with your permission.
— Toni Lembo, Handsdownyoga, Phoenix, AZ

I presented an entire course of classes based on the Yamas & Niyamas, using your book. My students really enjoyed the meditations. I also used the "Discussions and Journal Writing" sections as opportunities to look inward. Following that, we did our asanas, then sat for the Guided Meditations. Then I used the Affirmations to settle them into relaxation. I got lots of positive feedback. Thanks, Johanna!
— Sally Cheney, Sallys Gentle Yoga, Prescott, AZ

...Pondering the thoughts on each page of this book will help you to get centered, and to deal with the dilemmas that we all face in daily living.
— Ted Czukor (Srinathadas), Ted's Gentle Yoga, Phoenix, AZ

YogaLife is a great resource for beginning to intermediate students to explore the Yamas and Niyamas in a way that promotes Karma Yoga -- the actual practice of these spiritual principles in daily life. The blending of authentic information, affirmation and modern psychology is superb and easy to understand and I'd recommend it to anyone.
— Jeff Martens, Yoga Vision, Tempe, AZ

ARKANSAS:

I love using your book and feel it is an integral part of the yoga class I offer at the college. I also use my own copy often FOR other yoga classes I teach. It's a great tool for deepening the understanding and practice of yoga. Thanks again.
— Kay Wiggins, AR

CALIFORNIA:

Maheshvari produced a booklet that once again brings Yoga more easily into our lifestyle without struggle or debate to absorb it. She is a creative genius as she serves to bridge the gap of ancient wisdom to our weary minds and wounded hearts. Her work is healing to our collective Yoga spirit.
— Kathy-Lee Kappmeier-Foust, YOGAWELL, San Diego, CA

DELAWARE:

Thank you for your beautifully written YogaLife book. As a yoga teacher, I teach the yoga sutras and found your book to be a very helpful guide in teaching the Yamas and Niyamas. The questions you ask really help develop more clarity into the teachings and begin paving a more definitive path towards the Self.
— Johnny Gillespie, Wilmington Yoga, Wilmington, DE

I use your YogaLife book in just about every class I lead, reciting the prayer before class, using the affirmations during the class to convey the yamas and niyamas. Many students ask about the book and want to buy it. I love it as a simple way to express the yamas and niyamas, and in the process, I am learning to be a better me.

NORTH CAROLINA:

WOW! What a terrific little book. It is so nice to have a quick, well-written & researched book, on such an in-depth topic. I have read many books on Yoga Philosophy and most of them leave me confused with very little concrete ideas for practicing these principles in everyday life. I refer to this book frequently in my classes and often recommend it to my students who are wanting to broaden their horizons beyond asana practice. Many thanks for taking the time to write and produce this gem of a book.
— Lisa Lofthouse, NC

OHIO:

Thank you for sending me the YogaLife set. Its wonderful to see the ideas you shared with me last fall in real life. Everything [in the YogaLife set] is wonderful, especially the affirmations. And those Haikus are brimming with brightness. Jai Maheshvari! I wish you continued creative goodmake that great karma.
— Julie Lusk, Cincinnati, OH

Maheshvari's workshop on the yamas and niyamas was the perfect preparation for me to begin teaching them to my own classes. Each week we explore one yama or niyama in depth. Maheshvari's CD set helped me gain my own understanding, as did the YogaLife book and especially the workshop. The materials she has prepared are extremely helpful, and gathering at her workshop with other like-minded souls was deeply nourishing.
— Catherine Lassen, Big Water, UT

VIRGINIA:

Years ago I ordered multiple copies of your book and have treasured them as well as giving as gifts. I would like to order a couple more if possible.
— Nol Martin, VA

WISCONSIN:

I purchased the YogaLife book and the cards after attending your workshop at the Kripalu Yoga Teachers Association presentation. I have used the materials primarily to deepen my own understanding of the yamas and niyamas and to integrate them into my everyday, "off the mat" life. I now am a teacher and use the yamas and niyamas as themes in my classes. My students react positively to the affirmations and guided meditations for each principle. Thank you for making these abstract qualities real.
— Susan Twiggs (Karuna), The Karuna Yoga Studio, Marshfield, WI

CANADA:

I used the YogaLife book during two 8-week sessions of yoga classes, involving 70 students. The Yamas and Niyamas received great response from my students. People really appreciated the discussions of ethics and morality. I have had a few students say they were drawn to yoga because of the physical benefits and were completely surprised and delighted about the spiritual benefits and the connection to that part of themselves. So thank you so much. Your booklet has certainly affected me and my students. It is a resource I will use again and again both in my own spiritual growth and in planning my yoga classes.
— Julie Palmer, Canada

The fact that this YogaLife book is both simple and profound makes it a great teaching aid to lead students into an inquiry about what it would be like to live a yogic lifestyle.
— Pierre Blisle, Rama Lotus Yoga Center, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

AUSTRALIA:

The CDs are a beautiful introduction to yoga philosophy, explaining the yamas and niyamas in easy-to-understand everyday language with really relevant examples. Our philosophy students found them to be an excellent summary.

Maheshvari's YogaLife book and CD have been wonderful tools to enrich my personal practice and also that of my students! The clear, simple format makes it easy to relate ancient teachings into modern day life. I have found that there is a deep resonance with those who explore these principles and that healing occurs. I am very grateful that Maheshvari has created a way to take this powerful system of well-being and make it something we can all derive enormous benefit from.

I want to tell you how much I love your book: "YogaLife" (10 steps to freedom). I take one yama or niyama a day and make a copy of the poem and the affirmations page and tape it to the handlebars on my bicycle......I ride for about 1 1/2 hours and by the end of my ride, Ive got your poem memorized and feel so good about each one. My ride consists of many very steep hills and when I keep my mind on each yama and niyama, next thing I know, I'm at the top of the hill. . THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for writing such a wonderful book!
— xoxo laura downing

I've already listened to your CD and wanted you to know I really like how you laid it out. It was so comforting hearing your voice again, too. I'll listen to it often, I'm sure.
— Love you, Tonye

I love your book. I have enjoyed using it. I am a clinical social worker and really enjoy the meditations.
— Sincerely, Kim Wantz

In reality I recommend your CD and book to anyone who calls and is interested in yoga philosophy. Most of these requests for deeper yoga texts are from yoga teachers to be. I am really fortunate to be in this position to speak to so many spiritual seekers, and have something to offer that makes this wisdom more palatable
— Sincerely, Sharon Bean, Kripalu Yoga Center Book Store

7/02 - I love that book so much and read from it virtually every day, as well as travel with it. It has made a tremendous impact on my practice of yoga and meditation, and the affirmations are right down my ally. THANK YOU SO MUCH for writing the perfect companion book!

8/02 - I read from this book daily, as the passages, affirmations and in particular the guided meditations help to ground me and be in the present moment. Reading and meditating with this little book brings me a great sense of comfort, amidst this very transitory, uncertain phase of my life. I even keep a copy in my briefcase when I travel. It is easy to refer to a particular Yama or Niyama that seems appropriate. Thank you for writing this beautiful book!

8/02 - Thank you so much - I look forward to the comfort they bring me.
— Noel

I ordered the cards a few months ago and have really enjoyed them. They have many positive and uplifting affirmations in a yogic vein, and I enjoy the little symbols on them that relate to the different yamas and niyamas. I often choose one randomly in the morning before I come to work, and it usually has a deeper meaning by the end of the day. I think they're nicely produced also, without being too fancy or overwhelming. A very useful tool!
