Beginners’ Yoga and Meditation Retreat in San Diego July 9-13, 2017
Are you new to Yoga? Have you been wanting to try Yoga? Or, have you done a bit of Yoga here and there and would like to get a fuller experience of how to approach Yoga and Meditation on your own? Perhaps you have been doing Yoga postures for a while and would like to experience a deeper spiritual practice. This retreat could be called the “Wide World of Yoga” as veteran Yoga teacher Johanna Maheshvari Mosca will focus on giving you a broad understanding and personal experience of the eight limbs of Yoga that are the foundation of Yoga practice.
Celebrating the Full Moon Devoted to Honoring Our Teachers “Guru Purnima”
and Tapping into our Inner Guru, the Wise Voice of Our Hearts
About the Full Moon: July 9-13, 2017 (Guru Purnima—a time to honor our teachers). Astrologer Avia Venefica notes online (at whats-your-sign.com) that the Full Moon is “symbolic of the height of power, the peak of clarity, and the fullness and obtainment of desire.” She notes that the Native American Indians recognized the full moon in each month as having outstanding restorative benefits. Plus the way that the full moon brilliantly lights up the landscape and beach of Oceanside, CA , enhances magical natural beauty. Join us and see what the full moon energy brings to you!
Guru Purnima, July 9, 2017 is the day to celebrate and acknowledge one’s Gurus or teachers, who in the Hindu tradition help us connect with Divine energy. The word “Guru” is derived from its Sanskrit roots — “Gu” which means “darkness” and “Ru” which means “the one who removes darkness.” Accordingly, it is the Guru who removes the darkness from within his students and leads them to the light of wisdom and ultimately introduces them to the Divine. The July full moon is a special time to honor and acknowledge those teachers who have contributed to us on our spiritual path. I hope you will join me in celebrating our teachers and sending them our love and gratitude. We will have an altar with flowers and candles and a place for photos of your most beloved teachers.
Led by Johanna Maheshvari Mosca, PhD, and colleagues.

Both retreats were very rewarding and have given us the tools for relaxing, looking inward and getting more in touch with ourselves. It’s been a true learning experience that has changed our lives for the better.”

What can I say but WOW!
“Dear Johanna, What can I say but WOW! Your leadership of our 4-day Sedona Spirit Yoga and Hiking Vortex Retreat was superb. From your expertise in hiking the Red Rocks of Sedona, to your extensive knowledge of yoga, to your attunement to the energy of the ecosystem—you are a masterpiece of nature! The first time we spoke on the telephone, your vivacious personal energy immediately established rapport. I was delighted to experience four glorious days in spiritual renewal and rejuvenation with you in beautiful Sedona AZ. As a result, I am amazed at my newly-found clarity of purpose. I highly recommend you, your heartfelt presence, your passion for helping people, and your awesome retreat to anyone needing a well-being boost!

About your Retreat Leader Johanna Maheshvari Mosca, Ph.D
Johanna leads retreat gong meditation
My vision for myself and my students is to make life a moving meditation in which we cultivate ongoing peace and contentment. I have published three books related to living the wisdom of Yoga—YogaLife: 10 Steps to Freedom; Cultivate Contentment: Using Ancient Wisdom to Thrive in Today’s World; and most recently, Teen Triumph: 10 Ways to a Winning Life. Starting in the 1990’s, I have completed numerous trainings with two 200-hour certifications in Kripalu Yoga and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. Then I earned my 500 hours with the International Yoga College, studying mainly with Rama Jyoti Vernon. I followed that with two weeks in India, studying with TVK Desikachar and his son Kaustub at the Krishnamacharya Mandarim. In recent years, my focus on learning techniques to still the babbling mind has led me to complete two meditation teacher trainings, first 200-hours with the McLean Meditation Institute. Then I went on to pursue my current passion, studying I-Rest (Inner Restoration) Meditation with Richard Miller, and completed his iRest teacher trainings I and II. As a former “teacher specialist” for the NYC Public Schools, I have experience meeting my students at their own level and helping them stretch to the next stage of growth, whatever that might be for each individual. I feel honored and grateful when other beings trust me to guide them in Yoga and consciousness expanding reflection on the spiritual path.
